Ensure Zoom is installed on the device(s) you’ll be using for your online piano lesson.

You don’t need a paid version as a student—only your teacher needs the paid version to run unlimited time sessions.

Once Zoom is installed, follow these steps for setup.

Step 1: Enable Original Sound and Echo Cancellation

Open Zoom and go to Settings.

Under Audio Settings, enable Original Sound. This will allow the microphone to capture piano sound more accurately.

Make sure Echo Cancellation is turned on to prevent audio feedback.

Step 2: Choose Your Setup Option

Option 1: Two-Device Setup

Device 1 (Communication):

Place the first device (phone, tablet, or laptop) in front of your face, where sheet music would typically be placed. This device will be used to see and speak with your teacher.

Audio: Ensure the microphone is on for communication.

Device 2 (Keyboard Focus):

Position the second device to the side of the piano, angled to show the full length of the keyboard, so your teacher can see your hands as you play.

Audio: Mute the microphone and lower the volume to prevent echo or feedback.

Option 2: Single Device Setup

Positioning: Place your device where both you and the full length of the piano keyboard are visible to your teacher using the front camera of your device (with the screen facing your side so you can see the teacher).

The bigger the screen of your devic the better so you can see the teacher and his screen keyboard clearly.

A tablet works best for this setup.

Make sure the camera shows your face and hands clearly as you play.

Audio/Video:

Ensure the device’s microphone is unmuted.

The video should clearly capture both you and the piano keys.
